CERN Invites You to Participate in the FCC Public Dialogue Process
Following the publication of the feasibility study for the Future Circular Collider (FCC), CERN has strengthened its dialogue and information activities with the local communities where the future FCC project could potentially be established. In both France and Switzerland, it is customary, before any investment decision is made concerning a major territorial infrastructure project - in the case of the FCC, by the CERN Council no earlier than 2028 - to initiate a public participation process around the project under consideration.
For this reason, over the next four months in France and Switzerland, public events, workshops, and webinars will be organised in order to create the conditions for a transparent and genuine exchange between CERN and the public. This public participation process comes at a time when the CERN Council, bringing together representatives from all CERN Member States, is preparing to update the European Strategy for Particle Physics based on recommendations from the scientific community.
If approved, the FCC would be installed in an underground ring-shaped tunnel 91 km in length, at an average depth of 200 m, located beneath the departments of Haute-Savoie and Ain in France, as well as beneath the canton of Geneva in Switzerland. It would collide electrons and their antiparticles, called positrons, in order to produce results at an unprecedented level of detail. The FCC would therefore help explore the deepest mysteries of the Universe and foster innovation, as well as the development of new technologies and skills over the coming decades.
In order to continue the dialogue initiated by CERN with the public since 2024, two public participation processes will be implemented, according to procedures adapted to the frameworks and practices of participatory democracy specific to CERN’s two Host States:

In the meantime, to learn more through the project’s official documentation, submitted for public discussion in both France and Switzerland:
Within the alumni platform, we are also opening an FCC collaboration group to allow you to follow FCC-related news: join the group here https://alumni.cern/topics/58509/home
We are looking forward to these coming weeks of discussion and hope to hear from you and see you at the various events!
