Published on February 13, 2023

Dearest Friday Link readers,

We have two agendas this week; one is full of hope, the other is very sad.

So you can guess that the full of hope one is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science !

Yes the day is finally here ! It is the February 11th.

First of all, we thank you all the contributors and also the followers for our instagram campaign: Innovate. Demonstrate. Elevate. Advance. Sustain.

Our Instagram page and Linkedin page are blooming with the work life of women from our community. If you are careful you can catch the keywords on the photos ; )

And don’t forget hastags: #February11 #idwgs2023 #WitAtCern #WomenAtCern #SheWorksAtCern #LifeAtCern

CERN Facebook page also created a fun and educated guess game.

If you missed the two great links related to today you can find them again here:

Today as a very special movement CMS communication and outreach team prepared videos of women works for CMS Experiment in different languages.

You will find the blog and linked videos here also there is a youtube play list of all videos.

They asked 3 questions , if you are curious checkout the videos ; )

Questions:

  • What do you like the most about being a scientist? What makes science so cool?
  • Do you remember anything that triggered your interest in science?-
  • A call for girls to join STEM.

Thank you Federica, Nefeli, Sofia and all the speakers, contributors.

So you can also guess that the other one which is indeed very sad: the two huge successive Earthquakes occurred in south of Türkiye. It effected a very large region in Türkiye also including North Syria !

Here we would like to quote again the DG office message from Tuesday :

“We were all shocked and saddened to learn of the earthquakes that shook Türkiye and Syria yesterday, leading to appalling devastation and loss of life. Our thoughts go out to all those affected by this disaster.”

Today, we would like to introduce you, one of the unfortunate victims of Earthquake. First of all, she and her immediate family are alive but unfortunately they lost their homes : (

She is Prof. Dr. Deniz Sunar Cerci.

She was one of the conveners of CMS Experiment Standard Model Hadronic Physics group until September 2022.

She is currently working on the FACET project. Here you can find one of the articles from the project that she contributed.

Have a good and effective weekend to everyone,
