Women In Technology - Friday Links - 07/07/2023
Dear WIT Friends,
this is our selection of Friday links:
WIT activities
- We've got you covered!
Thanks to the sponsorship of the D&I Program at CERN, WIT recently distributed little boxes with hygiene products in some toilets all around CERN.
Our idea is to contribute to a feeling of comfort and consideration of those urgent needs.
The products are mainly meant to help out in an emergency, and we encourage everyone and feel free to refill the box, if possible, in the act of solidarity.
Now you can find the exact locations through CERN’s GIS portal by searching in the "Data" tab -> "Table of content" -> "POI" - > "Hygiene products for women"!

- CERN Science Gateway
The Science Gateway info session for WIT Community took place on 6th of July and if you didn't manage to attend, you can now find the slides in the indico page: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1301337/
More information about upcoming training sessions is available in: https://guides.web.cern.ch/agenda-trainings.
Science communication courses will be organised as of mid-August and maybe there will be one dedicated session for the WIT Community, so stay tuned to know more!

- Women in South Africa
Recently, I was traveling in South Africa and I found myself wandering around a small bookstore in Cape Town where I found several books that talk about women's struggles in SA. More specifically, I started reading a book which is called "When Secrets become stories. Women speak out" edited by Sue Nyathi, in which women from different walks of life show how common male violence against women is.
After that, I wanted to learn more about the position of women in SA and I found many interesting articles explaining the history, statistics, etc

- 25 by’25 progress
A very interesting article on the 25by’25 progress has been published in this week’s Bulletin that shows us that the numbers have improved and encourage us that we will have and even more diverse environment in the future.
