Women In Technology - Friday Links - 10/10/2023

Published on October 16, 2023

Dear WIT Friends,

this is our selection of Friday links:

World mental health Day 10th of October

In many cases, mental health is underestimated or not taken as seriously as the physical health leading to significant issues for our overall health and well-being.

The new fast pace of life has caused an increase in anxiety issues and the feeling of missing out.

It is a challenge for everyone to maintain a balance between a peaceful, stress-free life and the increasing demands.

The HSE department offers dedicated workshops for mental health support in order to help us to identify and manage the stress levels:

  • Congratulations to Claudia Goldin, who has been awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Economics for her research advancing our understanding of women’s work force participation.

Goldin is the third woman, and the first female solo-winner, to be honored with the Prize

Her research illustrates how the process of closing the wage gap has been uneven throughout the course of history, changing in line with social norms and women’s own expectations about their career prospects and roles at home. One of the most significant findings Goldin uncovered in her research is that differences in pay and labour force participation cannot be attributed to biological differences, but to the division of unpaid caregiving and household labour between heterosexual couples.

“We are never going to have gender equality, or narrow the pay gap, until we have couple’s equity,” says Goldin.

  • Immunity to change - Shift the Paradigm

MicroTalk on "Immunity to change - Shift the Paradigm" on the 19th of October at 14:00.

`Have you ever experienced this: in certain areas of your life, be that work or private life, you have been successfully able to show discipline, develop yourself and implement changes very fast.

However, in some other areas, you are very clear about what you would like to change and you are giving your 100% to implement it: and yet you don’t manage to do it consistently, you simply keep on doing what you always did and your old patterns seem to be hard to overcome?`
