Women In Technology - Friday Links - 20/10/2023
Hello everybody,
Our selection of links is here to keep you company on a rainy weekend.
Women Are More Ambitious Than Ever And Workplace Flexibility Is Fueling Them
This year’s McKinsey’s Women in the Workplace 2023 report reveals some hard-fought gains at the top, with women’s representation in the C-suite at the highest it has ever been. However, with lagging progress in the middle of the pipeline—and a persistent underrepresentation of women of color—true parity remains painfully out of reach.

Is hybrid work the best solution for employees and employers? Are we moving towards a two-tiered workforce, composed by those who can and those who cannot work remotely?
Is a four-day week the new compromise for organising work?
The upcoming micro-talk will address these questions, by presenting the most recent research developments in this field, supported by employee- and employer-level quantitative data.

Living And Leading Without Apology
A remarkable podcast on how women are shifting the landscape when it comes to leadership and power. Allowing for an abundance of power enables us to promote and support each other, rather than hold power over each other and compete.

Public-speaking Masterclass
Julia Gillard misogyny speech voted most unforgettable Australian TV moment.
I think what we’re doing better is naming and shaming when we see sexism and misogyny. I think it’s impossible to imagine in Parliament today that a woman could be called the things that I was.

And more than 10y later, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, fires back against a GOP congressman who reportedly called her a profane name: "What I believe is that having a daughter does not make a man decent. Having a wife does not make a decent man," Ocasio-Cortez said in an impassioned speech on the House floor addressing the incident with Representative Ted Yoho from Florida. "Treating people with dignity and respect makes a decent man. And when a decent man messes up, as we all are bound to do, he tries his best and does apologize, not to save face, not to win a vote. He apologizes genuinely to repair and acknowledge the harm done so that we can all move on."

Human Rights Violations
Women and girls continue to be killed on the basis of their sex and gender, rendered more vulnerable to femicide when being women and girls intersect with other grounds or identities. These regressions are happening while the world navigates multiple crises of war, climate change, poverty and pandemics that clearly have a gendered impact and affect women and girls unequally.”
