Are you considering a career change, would you like to find a new job or are you simply interested in what’s available on the job market in different industries?

Make sure you don’t miss the CERN Alumni Third Collisions event, taking place on 9 – 11 February 2024 at CERN, where you’ll have a chance to meet alumni from all over the world, many of them industry leaders in their fields as well as some recruiting companies keen to present their opportunities to people with skills developed at CERN.

You can find more information and get your ticket here: https://alumni.cern/page/third-collisions

The eight edition of the Women and Girls in Science and Technology project will take place during the week of 5 to 9 February 2024. On that occasion, female scientists and engineers will be visiting local schools to inspire younger generations to explore the world of science.

Every year, the project is a huge success (240 presentations to 5220 schoolchildren in 2023!). This is why we are always looking for more CERN female colleagues to participate!

Registrations are now open and will close on Sunday 10 December (23:59).

Free training "Learn to use Satellite Data to understand Climate Change" at CERN IdeaSquare on Saturday 9th December.

The free training is offered to girls and women aged 14+ to familiarize them with STEM and data science, with a focus on the environment and climate change.

We will use Google Earth Engine as an introduction to data acquisition, visualization, cloud computing  etc...

We can welcome up to 36 participants at any time (one session in the morning, another new session in the afternoon).

The training will take place in English, with help and translation available in French.

What will participants learn?

Part 1: Getting More Women in STEM Careers

Ellen Walker, founder of the nonprofit RightsTech Women, will share about the need to get more women working in data science, on climate change issues.

A representative of CERN Women in Technology will share her career perspectives and experience of working in computing and data science at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

Part 2: Technical training

Technical coaches from CERN Micro Club and CERN Women in Technology will introduce participants to how they can apply pictures of Earth taken from space to understand climate change in their local area and around the world.

Discover satellite imagery and the process of working with such data to investigate your own questions.

Get familiar with Google Earth Engine, an open platform that can be used to visualize and understand climate trends such as deforestation, temperature change, and extreme events.

To participate, registration is mandatory. Click on the registration button below.

Note that for participants under 16 years of age, a parental consent form is required as part of the application process.

Please consult our event page for more information, and register at https://indico.cern.ch/e/satellitedata

inscription ouverte à toutes les femmes exerçant un métier en lien avec les sciences, la technologie, l’ingénierie et les mathématiques (STIM), mais aussi l’informatique, la communication ou la formation ;

priorité aux intervenantes du CERN, de l'UNIGE, de l'EPFL et du LAPP. Si vous n'appartenez à aucune de ces institutions et souhaitez participer, contactez-nous ;

présentation d’une heure pour une classe de 35 élèves maximum, âgés de 7 à 15 ans ;

majorité des interventions en français (95 %), mais des interventions en anglais sont également possibles ;
