Work-life balance

 

 

Despite this article being from The Economist 2018, it does not feel less relevant today: Mothers are perceived to be less committed to their jobs, less dependable, less authoritative and more emotional when they become mothers (despite evidence to the contrary), fathers are perceived to be more committed to their work than childless men, offered higher starting salaries, held to lower expectations and cut more slack.

 

On the bright side:

Healthy parents means healthy societies and also healthy workers; family policies represent an investment far beyond a welfare hand-out.

 

 

How often are women careers forgotten

     “It’s incredibly important these stories are known, because if you don’t know someone has done something, you feel like you’re doing it for the first time; if people tell you that you’re no good at anything and you haven’t got anyone to point to, you can’t say ‘these people did it, so I’ll do it’.”

     As the only female club president across Brazil's three main divisions, Pereira admitted she "feels lonely."

     Criticised for only allowing women journalists in the news conference, Pereira responded: "Don't be hysterical."
