Exciting news is on the horizon for the CERN Alumni Network (CAN)! In the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing new ways to connect, share, and engage with the community. In 2024 alone, alumni contributed nearly 2,000 hours to organising events, mentoring, and networking. Now, we’re taking it a step further—with upcoming initiatives to recognise your engagement and help you make the most of the network. Please see: https://alumni.cern/news/2548263 In the meantime, take a few minutes to update your profile and ensure you’re visible for exciting opportunities: https://alumni.cern/me/show

In our new CERN Alumni Creatives series, we’re featuring alumni who’ve pursued careers in the creative fields, starting with Julia (aka Juweel). Growing up near Geneva with both parents working at CERN, Julia had an early connection to the lab but ultimately followed her passion for music. From a summer internship in CERN’s finance department to becoming a singer-songwriter, read how her journey unfolded: https://alumni.cern/news/2267737

Calling all CERN Alumni in Costa Rica - a new regional group has just launched, and you can now join here: https://alumni.cern/topics/49398/feed. Plans are underway for the first meetup in May, taking advantage of the upcoming CERN Latin-American School of High-Energy Physics, details to follow.

Some of our alumni have been featured in Symmetry Magazine: meet four physicists who transitioned from particle physics research to teaching high school physics and maths, with their stories highlighting the impact of a physics education beyond the lab: https://www.symmetrymagazine.org/article/from-the-lab-to-the-classroom-0

Swissmint has issued a limited-edition silver coin in honour of CERN, symbolising Swiss and global innovation. Released on 13 March 2025, this special coin celebrates CERN’s contributions to science and technology: https://home.web.cern.ch/news/news/knowledge-sharing/silver-coin-cern.

The first beam screen in the series for the High-Luminosity LHC has been coated with a new amorphous carbon layer. Beam screens are crucial for reducing heat load and ensuring vacuum performance, particularly in the high-intensity final focusing regions near ATLAS and CMS: https://hilumilhc.web.cern.ch/article/first-series-beam-screen-hl-lhc-amorphous-carbon-coating.

In the latest Physics World podcast, online editor Margaret Harris visits CERN, speaking with physicists about some of the lab’s most exciting experiments and catching up with CERN’s current and future leaders: https://physicsworld.com/a/exploring-cern-physics-world-visits-the-worlds-leading-particle-physics-lab/.
