Grow, Learn, Connect: Experiential Opportunities for CERN Alumni
The CERN Alumni Network (CAN) offers a variety of opportunities for alumni to stay connected and develop professionally through experiential involvement (relating to, derived from, or providing experience). By participating in events, courses, and mentorship programmes, alumni can continue to benefit from CERN’s community while gaining new perspectives and skills.
Perhaps one of the most powerful ways to develop professionally is through the mentorship programme. As a mentee, you can gain personalised guidance and support from experienced CERN alumni. For example, Berta Rubio Pascual shared her experience: “The CERN Alumni programme broadened my horizons and gave me perspective when changing jobs. Sometimes when you feel overwhelmed, you tend to think that your personal situation is unique, but it is amazing to see and hear others that have had the same fears and joys that you are facing.”
Michael Wilkinson, another mentee, reflected: “It came at a fortuitous time as I was trying to conclude my PhD and find a new position. My mentor was generous with his time and helped me edit my job application materials in great detail, including my CV, cover letter, and job talk.”
Keeping up to date with alumni.cern is another way to stay involved. By regularly visiting the platform, you can access updates on events, networking opportunities, and the latest CERN community news - ensuring you never miss a chance to reconnect and engage.
In addition, there are a whole host of CERN Alumni events you can participate in such as “Moving out of Academia to...", Virtual Company Showrooms, News from the Lab, R1 talks, Collisions and more! As one participant of the “Moving Out of Academia to Data Science” event shared: “I learned many tips on how to make the transition from academia and got a few new ideas on how to translate skills from CERN to industry resumés.” Another alumnus, reflecting on the “Collisions” event, said: “It feels great to connect to CERN again in this beautiful environment! One word: amazing!”
Finally, another way to stay engaged is by exploring the Learning page on alumni.cern. Here you can browse, access to the CERN Library, and invitations to various webasts and lectures held at CERN.
Why not consider how YOU can get involved? Whether by taking a course, participating in events, or connecting through the mentorship programme, your involvement strengthens the bonds that make CERN Alumni a unique and supportive network.
