The engagement journey continues: Badges released for experiential engagement

Published on May 2, 2025

This week, we have unveiled the second category of badges in the CERN Alumni Engagement Programme—this time recognising experiential engagement.

If you’ve attended an event, joined our mentoring programme, taken part in a course, or regularly visited the alumni platform, you might already be among the latest CAN (CERN Alumni Network) Doers.

🎖 A badge could be waiting on your profile—go take a look!

In the experiential engagement category, alumni can earn badges by:

🧭 Regularly visiting the alumni platform to check news, events, and opportunities
📅 Attending alumni events, online or in person *
🎓 Participating as a mentee in the mentoring programme
👩‍💻 Taking part in technical courses organised in collaboration with the Learning & Development @CERN

These badges are a way of recognising meaningful interaction and reinforcing the shared experience that makes the CERN Alumni Network so special.

💡 The easiest badge to earn? Just show up.

One of the simplest ways to earn your first badge is to connect to alumni.cern. Log in, explore the latest updates, and start reconnecting. Regular visits count towards your engagement and help you unlock even more of what the platform has to offer.

Words from fellow CAN Doers

"The CERN Alumni programme broadened my horizons and gave me perspective when changing jobs. Sometimes when you feel overwhelmed, you tend to think that your personal situation is unique, but it is amazing to see and hear others that have had the same fears and joys that you are facing.”Berta Rubio Pascual

“It came at a fortuitous time as I was trying to conclude my PhD and find a new position. My mentor was generous with his time and helped me edit my job application materials in great detail, including my CV, cover letter, and job talk.”Michael Wilkinson

“I learned many tips on how to make the transition from academia and got a few new ideas on how to translate skills from CERN to industry resumés.”– Participant, ‘Moving out of Academia’

Whether you are revisiting the platform weekly or diving into a mentoring session, every action strengthens our global network.

Your involvement shapes the CERN Alumni Network.
Now it comes with a badge.

*For the Gluon badge, which is awarded to those who take part in alumni events, it's your actual participation that counts—not just your registration. Since last year, we’ve made a concerted effort to track attendance to ensure this badge reflects genuine engagement. If you attended an event and think you should have received your Gluon badge but haven’t seen it on your profile yet, please contact us at [email protected] —we’ll be happy to investigate and make it right.
