Women In Technology - Friday Links - 11/02/2022

Dear WIT Friends,
The day has finally arrived and we are celebrating the international day of Women and Girls in Science!
Women around the world are still struggling to get an education, either because of social norms or because of limited access to resources.
Unfortunately, only 35% of all students enrolled in fields pertaining to STEM are women based on one of UNESCO's Reports Cracking the code: Girls’ and women’s education in STEM
For that reason, it is very important to promote science among women and bring new fresh ideas and talents into the scientific pool.
On 22 December 2015, the General Assembly declared 11 February as International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
At CERN, diversity is fundamental. It is a work environment which brings together people from all over the world to collaborate for the same goal!
The CERN's first targets-based '25 by 25' strategy commits to boost the nationality and gender diversity within the Staff and Fellows population over the next five years!

Courses
There are also courses in place such as “Active Bystander” which aim staff to handle poor behaviors and bring balance in the work environment.
Also, every day we should feel proud of all women within the decades who made a change for the world and they haven't probably received the recognition they deserved.
An example of 22 pioneering women in Science.
Furthermore, our colleague Louise Zelia Carvalho who is the Diversity & Inclusion Programme Leader shared with us a few words about this special day:

Great News!
And to make this day even greater, the CMS collaboration announced yesterday that Patricia McBride from Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory as next spokesperson! Our warmest congratulations to Patricia who is the first female spokesperson in the CMS!
On the 4th of April 2019, WIT had the opportunity to interview Dr Patricia McBride and the recording is available in indico.

Wishing you a lovely weekend!
