At CERN: 2015–2016 Project Associate in the Beams Department
Today: Co-founder of Ion Biotec and Associate Professor at Comillas Pontifical University
World Health Day is celebrated annually on 7 April and each year draws attention to a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world. The same date marks the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948. Regular visitors to alumni.cern will be familiar with those CERN Alumni who have enjoyed a career trajectory into the health sector and this week, we feature CERN Alumna, Ana Megia, co-founder of the Spanish start-up Ion Biotec.
Ana's company uses Cold Plasma Technology which has proven useful in deactivating a broad spectrum of microorganisms and stimulating the tissue regeneration process, without damaging living tissue. Based on their patented technology for the generation of cold plasma at atmospheric pressure with a high concentration of Reactive Oxygen and Nitrogen Species (RONS), they develop products and systems with application in such sectors as medecine and veterinary, find out more here:
Ana will be joining some other members of the CERN Alumni Network soon to set up a MedTech group - watch this space!
