CERN Alumni: Chiara Bianchin

Today: Data scientist working in VW Financial Services in Berlin and Braunschweig, Germany

What memories do you have from the 4 July 2012 announcement of the discovery of the Higgs boson?

"I was in building 222 (if I remember correctly the building numbers!). I felt like history was being written in front of my eyes. I felt so lucky to be there! Studying in books that the Higgs boson has never been observed and finding myself working at CERN when its observation was announce is a once-in-life-time event. 10 years later I still feel the emotion and I'm glad I'm still in touch with CERN thanks to the Alumni platform and team."

What is your best memory of working at CERN?

"Being among people from all over the world, who are super clever but always approachable . Then the environement and nature surrounding CERN, I fell in love with it."

What skills did you develop during your CERN work experience which have been particularly useful in your subsequent career trajectory?

"-technically: working with large amount of data and the programming knowledge that comes with it
- being open to diversity, going deeper into problems and asking critical questions"
