CERN Alumni Awardees 2021 - Julia Hellström
At CERN: Technical Student and Fellow, 2016 - 2019
Now: National Contact Point for Horizon Europe at Vinnova, Sweden's governmental agency for Innovation Systems

1) What does winning the CERN Alumni award mean to you?
"It was a very nice gesture of appreciation, especially to see the efforts of making the trophy in-house at CERN and the personal greeting from my CERN supervisor Giuseppe Bregliozzi on video during the ceremony. It reminded me of the good times I spent at CERN and how it brought me where I am today."
2) How did your CERN experience contribute to your subsequent career, if at all?
"My CERN experience and vacuum science expertise were essential to the next step I took in my career, diverging into business development for Swedish industry and academia towards big science facilities. My CERN network is a great asset when linking Swedish companies to interesting procurements at CERN, ESS, ITER and other large-scale research facilities."
3) Where do you see the value in being an active member of the CERN Alumni Network?
"It is pleasant and clever to keep contact with other experts within your field. It keeps work life more interesting and may give you ideas and opportunities you did not foresee."
