Pass the baton and have fun: Take part in the CERN Alumni Virtual Relay Race

Would you like to experience the excitement of taking part in the Relay Race, similar to what you may have experienced while working at CERN?

Alternatively, if you never had the opportunity to participate before, would you like to join a team and support each other while competing with members from different parts of the world?

After the success of last year's pilot edition, the Office for Alumni Relations is partnering with the CERN Running Club again, to offer you the chance to take part virtually, no matter your location!

How does it work?

1. Register

The CERN Relay Race will take place on Wednesday 31 May and the deadline for CERN alumni to register is 17 May.

As a reminder, each team is made up of six runners and the distances are as follows:

• 1000m
• 800m 
• 800m
• 600m
• 600m
• 400m

Please let us know if you have managed to form your own team (and who your team members are). If you do not have your team, no worries, the alumni relations office will put you in one.

2. Get to know your team

After we receive all the registrations, we will form teams based on your preferred distances. We will use the STRAVA app (which we invite you to download on your phones to record your segments), where we will create the teams and send you the link to join your team and meet your team members.

3. Run your segment

You will have between 20 and 28 May to run your segment and record it in STRAVA.

The deadline for transmitting the 6 STRAVA segments to the CERN Running Club is 29 May.
The CERN alumni team will collect your segments from STRAVA and submit them to the CERN Running Club for you) - you can either make your segment publicly available (this way we can make a screenshot) OR you can send us a screenshot showing the date, distance and time.

4. Have fun and share it with the Network

Please remember to take a photo of yourself running so we can create a short video of your efforts.

5. Receive your souvenir

All CERN Alumni participants will be sent a souvenir prize and the CERN Alumni virtual ranking will be revealed on 31 May during the Relay Race Prize ceremony.
