Women In Technology - Friday Links - 24/11/2023

Published on November 27, 2023

Hello everybody,

A Bloomberg analysis based on research from Stanford University economics doctoral student Lauren Harris found that women now definitively outnumber men with a shared name as CEOs of S&P 500 companies! A 2015 New York Times analysis highlighted how women at the time were significantly less represented in CEO ranks than men with the name John. This gap began to close in subsequent years, and women CEOs have finally taken a somewhat healthy lead over men named John.

Sparks!

The 3rd edition of CERN's science innovation forum was on Future Quantum and featured a full female line-up of speakers; and it was fantastic!

Inequality & Inaction in Physics

This Springer article presents and discusses three overarching themes, demonstrating how highly educated, well-intentioned people of privilege maintain their power and privilege despite their own intentions: (1) denying inequity is physically near them; (2) locating causes of inequity in large societal systems over which they have little influence; and (3) justifying inaction.
