Women In Technology - Friday Links - 16/02/2024
Hello everybody,
here is our selection of Friday links.
WIT activities
First of all thanks a lot to the ones that contributed either by volunteering or buying some treats to the WIT cake sale.
The aim of the cake sale was to celebrate 11th of February, the International day of Women and Girls in Science, by helping raising funds for the Aid For All, charitable association led by our colleague Connie Potter.
We counted around 20 contributions with cakes, cupcakes, pastries, buns and muffins and we managed to raise a total of about 700 CHF.
To celebrate Feb. 11, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we have been featuring women working at CERN on our social media profiles. We asked them to submit pictures of themselves at work, and to tell us what they liked the most about life at CERN.
"Amazing people from around the world work together! “ These were some of the most popular words our colleagues use to describe what they like about CERN, and we agree! CERN is a vibrant international community of people who love to share what they do!
Over the past week, we profiled: 21 women (plus one library team!) from 16 different countries and 4 continents. They included physicists, engineers, educators, librarians, finance experts, and more!
We hope you have enjoyed our series celebrating the women of CERN! We definitely enjoyed learning about all the amazing things they do, and we especially loved all the wonderful, supportive comments from our friends and colleagues (and even some moms and grandmas). And that's what WIT is all about! Keep on sharing, and keep on supporting one another!

Thanks a lot to the ones that participate in the Imposter Syndrome workshop, which took place on 9 February. Imposter syndrome is the secret fear of being found out you’re not good enough despite external world evidence you’re doing really well. It affects people from all genders, backgrounds and stages in their professional career, but it hits harder people when they are in a minority. As we learn to challenge our inner Imposter Syndrome tendencies and as we self-promote ourselves, we can change the work culture for the better, and this is what WIT tried to do organising a workshop to learn and fight Imposter Syndrome.
If you are interested in knowing more about it, you will find the material here: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1328290/
The feedback from the participants was excellent!

On one can observe a decrease of women working in sciences in France by 28% between 2019 and 2021

Only 3 women are director generals among the 40 companies and those are the top 3.
More women are thriving in science – does that mean attitudes have changed? Read the opinion of Éliane Ubalijoro, who last year, became the first African female leader of a CGIAR research center.
