CERN Alumni Weekly News | 10 Questions with Apostolos Theodoridis, Code for Thought podcast, 90th birthday of Nobel laureate Carlo Rubbia, NA62 experiment, quantum entanglement
Read our latest "10 Questions with…" article, where Apostolos Theodoridis reflects on his journey from a CERN trainee to Data Analyst at MSC in Geneva. As Apostolos puts it, “It’s not only about buying and deploying, it’s about creating technological knowledge and developing skills!” Read the full interview for insights on building a career in data science: https://alumni.cern/news/2173899
Earlier this year, CERN Alumnus Peter Schmidt spoke with Laura Promberger and Jakob Blomer about their work on the CERN VM/FS project, which is used in high-performance computing beyond CERN. Discover how research software can impact wider fields through his Code for Thought podcast: https://alumni.cern/feed_posts/1559488
CERN is celebrating the 90th birthday of Nobel laureate Carlo Rubbia, whose pioneering work on the proton–antiproton project led to the discovery of the W and Z bosons, earning CERN its first Nobel Prize in 1984. On 18 October, the Rubbia Symposium will highlight his key contributions to particle physics and CERN’s legacy, followed by a reception. NA62 experiment at CERN observes ultra-rare particle decay. In the Standard Model of particle physics, the odds of this decay occurring are less than one in 10 billion: https://home.cern/news/press-release/physics/na62-experiment-cern-observes-ultra-rare-particle-decay
Ever wondered about quantum entanglement? Symmetry Magazine explains how particles like fermions, including quarks and electrons, become mysteriously linked in 60 seconds: https://www.symmetrymagazine.org/article/explain-it-in-60-seconds-quantum-entanglement
Finally, many thanks to everyone who has already shared their #FavouriteCERNphoto to celebrate CERN's 70th anniversary! You can check out the submissions on the live feed: https://alumni.cern/feed (top posts). If you haven’t posted yet, there’s still time—submit your photo here: https://alumni.cern/feed by 6th October for a chance to win a prize.
