CERN Alumni - 2024 Year in Review

2024 has been nothing short of extraordinary for the CERN Alumni Network. From expanding our global community to over 10,400 members to hosting 109 events that kept us inspired and connected, we’ve seen our alumni shine in many different ways. Whether it was the Third Collisions event that brought 600 participants back to CERN, alumni stepping up as speakers and mentors, or the establishment of new regional groups, every milestone reflects the passion and dedication of our members.

John Jowett: Spotlight on CERN Alumni

John Jowett is an accelerator physicist, specialised in the design and performance of circular colliders. He came to CERN as a Summer Student in 1975 and returned as a staff member from 1980 to 2019. He worked on both the LEP and LHC colliders from their early design phases. He was responsible for the heavy ion beams in the LHC from 2003 to 2019, colliding lead nuclei with each other and with prot
