John Jowett is an accelerator physicist, specialised in the design and performance of circular colliders. He came to CERN as a Summer Student in 1975 and returned as a staff member from 1980 to 2019. He worked on both the LEP and LHC colliders from their early design phases. He was responsible for the heavy ion beams in the LHC from 2003 to 2019, colliding lead nuclei with each other and with protons. Since January 2020, he has been a member of the ALICE experiment at the LHC.
