CERN Alumni Weekly News | 8th anniversary, Alumni Survey, Looking for new group managers, High-Luminosity LHC test stand

Published on June 23, 2025

We have a stellar line-up of CERN alumni speakers, current CERN management, and the Director-General designate to help us celebrate the CERN Alumni Network’s 8th anniversary on the theme of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. You are invited to join us this coming Tuesday, 24 June at 16:00 CET. Don’t miss it: https://alumni.cern/events/182779

Meanwhile, we're getting ready to launch a major alumni survey to understand how the CERN Alumni Network can evolve to meet current expectations and needs better. This initiative also contributes to a broader, organisation-wide study examining CERN’s socio-economic impact. Alumni play a key role in this picture, and your insights will help shape both the future of the network and how CERN’s influence is understood more widely. Details are coming soon.

Speaking of global reach: 2025 has already seen an impressive number of regional meet-ups. But to keep the momentum growing, we’re currently looking for new group managers in Barcelona, Berlin, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C. If you're based in one of these cities and enjoy bringing people together, we'd love to hear from you.

On the science front, the latest issue of the CERN Courier dives into the development of klystrons — a cornerstone technology for next-generation, energy-efficient colliders. It’s an exciting read for anyone with an eye on the future of accelerators: https://home.web.cern.ch/news/news/accelerators/powering-future-accelerators

And closer to home, the High-Luminosity LHC test stand is almost ready in CERN’s large magnet test hall — a critical step forward for the collider’s upgrade. All components are now in place, and final connections are underway: https://home.web.cern.ch/news/news/accelerators/high-luminosity-lhc-test-stand-taking-shape

Finally, next week, Venice becomes the stage for a major moment in European particle physics, as physicists gather to discuss what’s next for the field. Stay informed: https://www.symmetrymagazine.org/article/whats-next-for-european-physics?language_content_entity=und
