CERN Alumni taking part in the Virtual Relay Race 2022
CERN alumni are not only excellent physicists, engineers or technicians - they also enjoy a good challenge to assess their running skills.
This is the case for our 42 alumni who took part in the very first edition of the virtual CERN Relay Race - a community competition that celebrated its 50th edition this year!
For those who have never heard of the CERN Relay tace, it is run in 6 stages: 1000-800-800-600-600-400 metres and as the organizers say on their webpage, "it's a fun event, and you don't have to run fast to enjoy it."
Thanks to a generous offer from the CERN Running Club, the driving force behind the race, our alumni were able to run their selected segment from anywhere in the world and track their time via the Strava application.
Seven international teams spanning five continents were formed and we were joined by alumni from Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Kuwait, Libya, Mexico, Morocco, Norway, Philippines, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the USA.
And what did the participants say about it?
As the famous quote says: “Winning doesn’t always mean getting first place, it means getting the best out of yourself,” we would like to add that for us, winning means simply taking part and enjoying the adventure.
A huge thank you to the teams of 2022 and we look forward to repeating this tradition again next year,
so if you couldn't participate this time, grab your running shoes and get training!
