ALUMNI DAY — LIVE FROM CERN'S SM18 TEST HALL
As we celebrate the ninth anniversary of the CERN Alumni Network, join us for a special Alumni Day LinkedIn Broadcast on 22 June. This year, we will take you behind the scenes of CERN’s SM18 test hall, where the magnets and superconducting systems for the High-Luminosity LHC are tested before installation.
The event will feature interviews with the HL-LHC Project Leader, alumni who contributed to the project and have since built successful careers beyond CERN, and a member of CERN’s Talent Acquisition team, who will share insights into opportunities at CERN and how to apply: https://alumni.cern/events/214993
JUNE CAN-DOERS OF THE MONTH
Meet our June 2026 CAN-doers of the Month and discover the many ways alumni are helping to strengthen the Network. From mentoring and volunteering to organising events, sharing opportunities or simply staying engaged, every contribution helps keep the community active and connected. Would you like to become a CAN-doer? Find out how to get involved and start earning badges through the CERN Alumni Engagement Programme: https://alumni.cern/news/13281513
GROUPS
- New York CERN Alumni x Flatiron Institute Meetup — Science and Technology Exchange & Happy Hour, 25 June 2026. Join fellow alumni and Flatiron Institute researchers for an evening of discussions, networking and informal exchanges on science and technology: https://alumni.cern/topics/3712/events/214097
- CERN Alumni Munich — 2nd Hiking Trip, 28 June 2026. Join fellow alumni for a day trip to the beautiful Schliersee region near Munich and enjoy a day of hiking, conversation and reconnecting with the CERN community: https://alumni.cern/topics/37536/events/214391
FROM CERN
CERN LEADS PROJECT TO MAKE EU SCIENTIFIC DATA MORE ACCESSIBLE
The new EU-funded HORIZON-ZEN+ project, coordinated by CERN, is developing AI-powered tools to improve access to scientific research outputs through the European Open Research Repository, helping make research data more discoverable and reusable: https://home.cern/cern-leads-project-to-make-eu-scientific-data-more-accessible/
ALICE'S UPGRADED DETECTOR SHOWCASES ITS BEAUTY
Using its upgraded detector, the ALICE Collaboration has performed the first LHC measurement of beauty-quark production in a previously unexplored momentum range, opening new possibilities for studying the strong force and the behaviour of quarks in extreme conditions: https://home.cern/alices-upgraded-detector-showcases-its-beauty/
IN MEMORIAM
We remember Mick Storr, whose contributions to CERN, science education and the alumni community touched many lives. Read the tribute prepared by his daughters and details of the funeral arrangements: https://alumni.cern/news/13286189
AND FINALLY
5 MISTAKES THAT TAUGHT ME MORE THAN MY PHD
Thinking about a move from academia to industry? In this new video series, alumna Androula Alekou shares lessons learned from her own transition beyond research, covering career changes, mindset shifts, burnout, coaching and professional growth. Real experiences, practical advice and perspectives she wishes she had heard earlier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMVjLcd0vvA
